Edmonton Stingers get their first win this season against the Vancouver Bandits
Stingers Vs. Bandits

Saturday night’s early-season clash between the Edmonton Stingers and Vancouver Bandits delivered exactly what fans expected Saturday night at the Edmonton EXPO Centre: pace, physicality, and high-level offensive firepower. In a matchup featuring two of the CEBL’s most talented rosters, the Stingers battled back from an early deficit and carried momentum into the second half against a Bandits squad that entered the game fresh off a franchise-record offensive performance in their season opener.
Vancouver came out aggressive offensively, pushing the tempo and attacking the paint early behind strong interior play from Tyrese Samuel and efficient perimeter scoring from the Bandits backcourt. After jumping out to a 25-19 lead in the opening quarter, Vancouver continued to pressure Edmonton in transition and briefly controlled the pace through much of the first half. The Bandits’ ball movement and downhill attacking style created problems for the Stingers defense, especially during a strong second-quarter stretch that helped Vancouver take a 42-39 lead into halftime.
Edmonton responded with much more defensive intensity coming out of the break. The Stingers tightened up defensively, forced tougher shot attempts, and began finding rhythm offensively through their wing scoring and transition attack. Emmanuel Bandoumel provided key energy on both ends of the floor, while Edmonton’s veteran core helped stabilize the game during several momentum swings. Taye Donald continued his steady hand and leadership throughout the second half runs from the Stingers and led a massive 3rd quarter effort.
The game featured several standout individual performances. Samuel was a consistent offensive force for Vancouver around the rim, while Tevian Jones continued to show why he is one of the league’s premier scorers, knocking down perimeter shots and creating offense in key moments. The Stingers dodged every punch thrown by the Bandits in the second half and countered with balanced scoring and physical interior play, with multiple players contributing during a strong third-quarter push.
Beyond the scoreline, the matchup highlighted the contrasting identities of both clubs early in the 2026 CEBL season. Vancouver showcased its explosive offensive ceiling and fast-paced style, while Edmonton leaned into toughness, defensive pressure, and depth to grind its way back into the contest. With both teams expected to compete near the top of the Western Conference this season, Saturday’s game had the intensity and atmosphere of a potential playoff preview. This win will be short lived as these teams face off again Friday night under the bright lights of the Langley Events Centre.
