Edmonton Stingers Re-Sign Overwater

EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that they have re-signed power forward, Zac Overwater, for the 2021 season. 

Overwater joined the Edmonton Stingers in the 2019 inaugural season. In 2019, Overwater played eight games for the Stingers and averaged 1.0 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 0.1 assists. During the CEBL Summer Series, Overwater played six games for the Stingers and averaged 3.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game. Overwater ranked third on the Stingers in field goal shooting at 55.6%.
 
“He made big strides last summer. With more experience under his belt, I believe his role will continue to grow with us,” said Head Coach and General Manager Jermaine Small. “We are happy to have him back as he is a great teammate who represents our organization proudly.”

Prior to joining the Stingers, Overwater played five years at the University of Lethbridge. In his time with the Pronghorns, Overwater became the third-leading scorer in program history with 1,388 points. He was also named a Canada West First Team All-Star. Following his graduation from the University of Lethbridge, Overwater signed with CB Universitat Vic of the Spanish Liga EBA. In Spain, Overwater averaged 9.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 13 games. After the CEBL Summer Series, Overwater returned to the Liga EBA. In four games with Pinta CBE Castell, Overwater is averaging 5.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.3 assists. 

The CEBL is preparing for its third season in 2021, following the success of the 2020 CEBL Summer Series in St. Catharines, Ont., which saw a record 1.2 million viewers across Canada tune in to four days of live programming on CBC.
