Edmonton Stingers Reveal Selections From Inaugural Canadian Elite Basketball League 2019 Entry Draft

Stingers Staff • Mar 25, 2019

The Edmonton Stingers have selected Mamadou Gueye with their first overall pick in the inaugural CEBL Entry Draft, which took place at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Ont., on Saturday and was live-streamed on CEBL.tv to an international audience.

Gueye, a Canada West second team all-star for Alberta, topped the conference regular season with a 19-1 record and was one of six Canada West student-athletes named to the 2018 Canadian Roster.

With their second selection, the Stingers selected one of the top two 2017 scorers from Central Arkansas, Mathieu Kamba. His game point average that season was 13.8.

These top picks, along with strong open round picks like Grandy Glaze, Ashton Smith, and Akeem Ellis, show the Edmonton Stingers as a serious contender in the CEBL inaugural season

Rounding out the regional round selections for the Stingers were Jarred Ogungbemi and Jordan Baker. Ogungbemi, previously named Most Outstanding High School Player in Winnipeg, has also competed in the 2009 selection camp for Canada’s Junior National Team, and represented Canada at the 2015 FISU Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea. He comes to the Stingers at the end of his one year contract with Aix-Maurienne Savoie Basket of the French Pro B League for the 2018-2019 season.

Baker is a name that all Edmonton basketball fans know. Currently the Assistant Coach with the U of A Golden Bears Basketball, Baker is also the program’s all-time leading scorer and all-time record holder in rebounds, assists, steals, and field goals.
