The Edmonton Stingers Sign DeMarco Dickerson

EDMONTON, AB- The Edmonton Stingers of the CEBL have announced the signing of American guard DeMarco Dickerson. Dickerson played two years with the NAIA Siena Heights Saints, averaging 20.1 points per game as a senior in 2019-20. After beginning his professional career in 2021 with UMEA Basket of the Swedish Baketligan, Dickerson will look to provide size and strength to the Stingers backcourt.

“DeMarco is a diamond in the rough,” said head coach and general manager Jermaine Small. “His size, athleticism and skill at the guard spot is something we need.”

Dickeson began his collegiate career in the 2015-16 season with Kalamazoo College (NCAA DIV III) where he scored 12.9 points per game across 21 contests and 2 starts. He spent the next season with Kalamazoo as a red shirt before transferring to Macomb Community College to play for the Monarchs of the NCJAA. Dickerson suited up for the Monarchs in 21 games, putting up 9.6 points and 3.3 assists per game.

Dickerson would transfer to Siena Heights of the NAIA for his final two college seasons, appearing in 60 games for the Saints earning a start in all but 3. He would stand out as a primary scoring option, averaging 15.6 points per game in 2018-19 (second on the team) and 20.1 points per game in 2019-20 (first on the team). On November 20th 2019, he managed a season high 31 points and eclipsed the 25 point mark ten times.

In his lone professional season thus far, Dickerson has maintained a consistent scoring output for UMEA, scoring 14.3 points per game on 43% field goal shooting. Aiding his average was a 34 point scoring outburst on December 7th, 2021, as he connected on 12 of his 20 shots and grabbed 6 rebounds in a win over Jamtland Basket. Despite UMEA’S first round playoff maintaining a positive assist-to-turnover ratio.

While Dickerson has not suited up since March 28, the 24-year old is ready to make an impact quickly as he is inserted into the lineup tonight as the Stingers are in Montreal taking on the Alliance. The game will be broadcast on CEBL+, CBC Sports, and CBC Gem.
