Stingers bolster lineup with big addition; Sign forward Marlon Johnson

Edmonton Stingers • Apr 21, 2020
EDMONTON - The Edmonton Stingers have signed forward Marlon Johnson to a one-year contract for the 2020 CEBL season.

Johnson, 26, spent last season with the Saskatchewan Rattlers, and played a big role in helping the Rattlers capture the first-ever Canadian Elite Basketball League championship. In 20 games (20 starts) with Saskatchewan, Johnson averaged 9.5 points, seven rebounds and 1.6 assists.

The six-foot-10 product of Chicago, IL was named a CEBL second-team all-star last season. Johnson has played professionally in Spain, Portugal and the Dominican Republic. After his CEBL season was over, Johnson played for the Sudbury Five of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). In 16 games (16 starts) with Sudbury, Johnson averaged 21 points, 11 rebounds and 2.1 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.9 blocks.

Prior to turning pro, Johnson played two years with the New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys (2015-17) and two years with Tallahassee Community College (2012-14).

“Besides bringing back the core, signing Marlon (Johnson) was my No.1 priority in free agency,” said Stingers GM and head coach Jermaine Small.
“With his length, athleticism and versatility he creates mismatches offensively and has even more of an impact on defence. He fits right in with our system and fills holes we had last year.”
