Miller Returns After 2023 Season Cut Short Due to Injury

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday the re-signing of Canadian point guard Elijah Miller. Last season Miller appeared in 14 games averaging 8.6 points and 3.0 assists with the Stingers before an ankle injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

“I’m excited to be back in a Stingers jersey, “ said Miller. “I owe it to the city and fans to pick up where I left off prior to my injury and help bring the trophy back to the city of Edmonton.”

Currently competing in Macedonia for KK Kozuv in his first overseas pro season, Miller recently notched 18 points and 7 assists in his first appearance for the team on February 10th.

Miller began to find his stride offensively late in the 2023 season, averaging 11.3 points per game in his last 8 games compared to 5 per game in his first 6 games. He notched a team high 21 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds against the Vancouver Bandits on July 2 in his best statistical performance.

“Elijah had a fantastic start to his professional career with us last year before his season was cut short due to injury,” said Head Coach and General Manager Jordan Baker. “I’m excited to see how he once again exceeds expectations in his return to Edmonton. His work ethic and approach to the game are a big part of why he was a free agency priority for us.”

In 2022, Miller was drafted 6th overall by the Guelph Nighthawks in the CEBL U SPORTS Draft, appearing in 2 games for the team.

Miller enjoyed a successful 3-year career at UPEI which saw the Rexdale native capture AUS MVP awards in his final U SPORTS season in 2022-23. In the 2021-22 season, Miller won AUS silver medal with the Panthers, averaging 17.6 points per game and winning a number of personal accolades including Second-Team All Canadian, AUS First Team All-Star and UPEI Male Athlete of the Year.

The 6’0” guard started his U SPORTS career with UPEI in 2019-20. In his freshman year, he averaged 15.3 points and 5.3 assists per game in 20 games en route to an AUS All-Rookie Team selection.

Miller and the Stingers will return to the Edmonton EXPO Centre on June 2nd to host the Saskatchewan Rattlers in their home opener. Tickets are available for as low as $20 per seat and can be purchased online or by contacting the Stingers head office via email (tickets@thestingers.ca) or phone (1-87STINGERS).
