American Forward Nick Hornsby Signs with Stingers

Six Year Vet Brings Talent and Size to Stingers Front Court

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday the signing of American forward Nick Horsnby.  The 6’7 power forward spent four seasons with the Sacramento State Hornets and has competed in six professional seasons in Germany and Israel.

 

“I’m excited to get started and play with the team this summer,” said Hornsby. “I have heard a lot of great things about the team and can’t wait to get out there and compete.”


Hornsby averaged 7.4 points per game across his 123 game NCAA career, including 11.3 in his senior year to complement 8.0 rebounds per game. He graduated third in career rebounds at Sacramento State and top-20 in 19 other statistical categories including steals, blocks, and field goal percentage.


He signed his first pro contract with the GIESSEN 46ers of the German ProB league, the third tier in the nation. He managed 13.7 points per game across 26 games. He spent two seasons with Bayer Giants Leverkusen in the German ProB and ProA league before signing with Hapoel Beer Sheva of the Israeli Basketball Premier League, the top tiered league in the country. He rejoined the Bayer Giants Leverkusen in the German ProA league for the 2022-23 season, where he is currently averaging 14.5 points per game in 13 games.


“Nick is skilled, versatile and tough. He makes everyone around him better," said Steve Sir, Stingers general manager. “We're excited to welcome Nick to Edmonton as we feel he will impact the team positively in a variety of ways.”


Hornsby and the Stingers will tip-off their 2023 season in Calgary against the Surge May 27 before heading back to Edmonton for a rematch on May 28 at 4pm. A league created by Canadians for Canadians with a mission to develop Canadian players, coaches, sports executives, and referees, the CEBL boasts the highest percentage of Canadian players of any pro league in the country with 71 percent of its 2022 rosters being Canadian. Players bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international pro leagues, the Canadian National team program, and top NCAA programs as well as U SPORTS. Nine players have moved from the CEBL into the NBA following a CEBL season, and 28 CEBL players attended NBA G League training camps during October.
