Edmonton Stingers Sign Two-way Playmaker Devon Bookert

EDMONTON, AB- The Edmonton Singers of the CEBL have signed Devon Bookert for the 2022 season. Bookert, born in Anchorage, Alaska, played four years with the Florida State University Seminoles before spending time professionally in the Czech Republic, the NBA G League, and Romania. The 29-year old guard is a two-way playmaker and consistent shooter the Stingers can rely on in their pursuit of a third-straight CEBL Championship.

Bookert had a successful NCAA Division I career at Florida State, starting his freshman year in 2012. He averaged 6.5 points per game across 34 contests, earning a starting spot midway through the season. He was one of the Seminoles top three-point shooters, knocking down 50.0% of his shots from beyond the arc. However, where Bookert succeeded best was in the playmaking department, and his 2.4 assists per game were good for second on his team.

He continued this trend in his second year, leading the team in assists per game (2.8, a career best) and total assists (102). His consistent shooting kept him in the starting lineup for 27 of the 36 games. Averaging 8.5 points per game, he helped the Seminoles to the NIT Semifinal game. Bookert continued to grow in his junior year, where he averaged a career best 10.1 points per game on 39.3% three-point shooting.

His final year of collegiate basketball was arguably his most successful, despite transitioning from a starter to a sixth man. In 33 games he managed 9.5 points and 2.8 assists per game with nearly a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio and highly efficient shooting. Bookert was honored as the Seminoles 6th Man of the Year and won the Outstanding Defensive Player Award.  He finished his career at FSU ranked 5th in school all-time three-point shooting percentage and 6th in career games played.

Bookert turned pro for the 2017-18 season, playing for the USK Praha of the Czechoslovakian Mattoni NBL. He put up 15.5 points and 2.7 assists per game across 24 games in the top-ranked Czech league. On March 24th, 2018 he scored a career high 31 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 7 assists.

After a standout season, Bookert landed a spot with the Austin Spurs of the NBA G League for the back half of the 2018-19 season, playing in 12 games. He managed 3.5 points per game with a season high of 16, but excelled as a playmaker, dishing out 3.2 dimes with only 1.3 turnovers per game.

This past season, Bookert took his talents to Romania where he suited up for CS Rapid of the Divizia A League. Across 15 games, the guard is averaging 16.5 pints and 4.6 assists per game, connecting on 37.8% of his threes.

“I am looking forward to bringing my hard hat everyday and being a part of the Stingers championship culture” said Bookert. The guard is the latest addition to the Stingers roster which includes familiar faces such as Jordan Baker and Marlon Johnson, as well as newcomers Rowell Graham-Bell and Roger Moute a Bidias.

The Stingers season begins on May 27th, with a home game against the Niagara River Lions in a rematch of the 2021 CEBL Championship. The Stingers won that game 101-65 en route to their second straight CEBL title. Fans can still secure single game, flex, and season tickets through the team’s head office at (905)-577-3440 and tickets@thestingers.ca, and on the team’s website: www.thestingers.ca/tickets
