EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) reveal three picks from the 2021 U SPORTS Draft.  Selected in the first round, 7th overall Alex Carson from Dalhousie University.

A 6’5 guard, Alex Carson is a two-time AUS Second Team all-star who helped lead the Tigers to a silver medal finish at the 2019-20 U SPORTS Men’s Basketball Final 8 Championship. The 2019-20 AUS Championship MVP and all-star has played an integral role in the Tigers winning three of the last four AUS conference championship titles.
 
The Lower Sackville, N.S. native led the nation in free throw percentage during the 2019-20 season with a 93.4 percent shooting efficiency. Carson sits atop the Tigers leaderboard for the most three-point field goals made in a single season (2017-18) with 67, good for second in the Atlantic conference record books.
 
Carson represented Team Canada at the 2019 FISU Summer Universiade in Napoli, Italy.  

Selected in the second round, eighth overall, DeAndrae Pierre from York University. A combo guard who attacks the rim and has playmaking ability. He is an effective player at both ends of the floor.
 
In his 2019-2020 season he appeared in 22 games and started 14 at guard … Ranked second on the team in points per game (12.4) and minutes per game (26.9) and led the team in total assists (64) … His free throw percentage of 81.9 was seventh in the OUA … Had seven straight games with 10 or more points from Oct. 26 to Nov. 16 … Finished the season with back-to-back 23-point games versus Ontario Tech and Queen’s.
 
In the 2018-2019 season he was named to the OUA All-Rookie team … Appeared in all 23 games and started 18 at guard … Ranked second on the team with 13 points per game and led team with 29.9 minutes per game … Also averaged four rebounds and 2.5 assists per game … Named York Male Athlete of the Week twice during the season for the periods ending Dec. 1 and Feb. 18 … Scored game-high 26 points in team’s playoff-clinching victory over Toronto in last game of regular season … Named York Male Rookie of the Year.
 
Selected in the third round, 21st overall Colton Gibb from University of Lethbridge.

A combo guard who is known for his tenacity at both ends of the floor. Quiet leader on the Pronghorns, he has never missed a game in his four seasons with the Lethbridge Pronghorns
 
In 2019-2020 for the fourth straight season, Gibb appeared in all 20 Canada West conference games… Led the Pronghorns in minutes played, averaging 31.4 minutes per game… Ranked second in team scoring with 14.4 points per game… He also averaged 6.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game… Colton was named Pronghorn Athlete of the Week three times during the season…. Scored a career high 34 points versus the University of Regina, January 3, 2020….
 
In 2018-2019 he appeared and started all 20 conference games at guard….. Led the Pronghorns in minutes played per game at 27.8 minutes per game…. Ranked second in Canada West in free throw percentage (92.2)…Finished third in team scoring with 12.7 points per game… He also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

The CEBL is preparing for its third season in 2021, following the success of the 2020 CEBL Summer Series in St. Catharines, Ontario; which saw a record 1.2 million viewers across Canada tune in to four days of live programming on CBC.
