EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Saturday the signing of Canadian guard Munis Tutu for the remainder of the 2023 season. Tutu brings two seasons of CEBL experience to the Stingers.

“I’m excited to be here and join this group,” saidTutu. “I’m looking forward to coming and contributing to what they already have going on, playing hard, and making my teammates better. I expect to win games and hopefully the championship; I know that’s the culture here in Edmonton.”

Tutu most recently competed in Bulgaria in the NBL, the national first league, where he averaged 15.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 30 appearances for Chernomorets. During the 2022 CEBL season, the 6’1” guard was a member of the second-seeded Niagara River Lions putting up 5.3 points in 20 regular season games. It was Tutu’s second season in the CEBL, as he also played for the Ottawa BlackJacks in the 2020 Summer Series.

Between the two seasons Tutu played professionally in Germany for Ehingen Urspring, averaging 16.6 points per game in 2021-2022.

Tutu began his collegiate career at Loyola Marymount College where he played for two years before transferring to Carleton University in 2017. Tutu was a key piece to the Ravens success, as he helped the team to two U SPORTS Championships and 3 OUA titles. Throughout his three years at Carleton, he averaged 10.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.6 steals per game, and was named OUA Third Team All-Star in 2019-20.

The guard joins the Stingers who recently suffered two injuries at the guard position with Adika Peter-McNeilly and Elijah Miller both sustaining ankle injuries on July 3rd and 5th respectively. The Stingers host the top-seeded Winnipeg Sea Bears tonight at the Edmonton EXPO Centre at 6:00 p.m.
