Stingers Announce 2024 Training Camp Roster

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced  Friday their training camp roster for the 2024 season. Sixteen athletes will join the team for Training Camp beginning on May 12th ahead of the Stingers first regular season game May 21st in Calgary.

“Training camp represents an exciting challenge for our club,” said head coach and general manager Jordan Baker. “Trying to bring together a mix of professional and USPORTS players in such a short period of time is important in setting the tone for the season. I am looking forward to seeing all the talent gathered in one place and trying to get everyone moving in the same direction.”

The training camp roster is headlined by four returning players, notably fifth year forward and Stingers 2023 leading scorer Brody Clarke, as well as sixth year guard and Stingers all-time leader in games played Adika Peter-McNeilly. Clarke was the 2019 CEBL U SPORTS Player of the Year while Peter-McNeilly captured the 2021 Sixth Man of the Year award.

Returning alongside the two veterans are second year Stingers Nick Hornsby (forward) and Elijah Miller (guard). Last season, Hornsby averaged 12.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists (the latter two being team highs). The forward will return after a season in Germany’s ProA league. Miller suited up for 14 games in 2023 before a season ending injury sidelined him. He will return to the team with his first international professional season experience, having played in Macedonia this winter.

The Stingers have also made significant offseason acquisitions who will attend training camp, including former NBA first round pick Jacob Evans III. The American guard has two seasons of NBA experience under his belt, primarily with the Golden State Warriors. Evans was a collegiate standout at Cincinnati, leading his team in scoring in his junior year. Also added to the lineup is American guard Davion Warren, who has played the last two seasons in the NBA G League after finishing his collegiate career at Texas Tech.

Canadian forwards Jermaine Haley and Edmonton born Ben Krikke have also been acquired for training camp. Haley, a Vancouver native and WVU alumni, has spent numerous seasons as a pro both in the NBA G League, Europe, and Canada. Krikke will make his professional debut with the team after five NCAA DI seasons, including a super-senior year at Iowa this past season. The 6 '9'' forward averaged 13.8 points per game for the Hawkeyes. Canadian guard Ryan Richmond will make his first CEBL training camp appearance after multiple international pro seasons.

The Stingers 2024 CEBL Draft selections Aaron Rhooms, Taye Donald, and Nate Petrone will also join the team for camp. Rounding out the training camp roster is Canadians guard Shakael Pryce alongside Edmontonians Lars Ishimwe and Abdullah Shittu.
