Stingers Announce Fresh Kicks Program

New Program Will Donate Basketball Shoes to Youth

May 3rd, 2023 (Edmonton) - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Wednesday the launch of their Fresh Kicks program. The program is a joint effort between the Stingers and local Edmonton charity Sport Central. Fresh Kicks will provide shoes and basketballs to local youth at no cost.


“Fresh Kicks is the latest in our line of community initiatives,” said Stingers president and CEO Reed Clarke. “We’re hoping to make basketball more accessible for kids, and proper equipment is the first step in getting kids playing the sport. Sport Central is the perfect partner on this program with their history of 


The program has been launched with an initial donation from KV Capital to purchase at-cost basketball shoes and official CEBL replica basketballs. Athletes can apply for the program through Sport Central’s referral portal. The program will aim to provide 500 shoes and basketballs for kids this year.


“Fresh Kick aligns perfectly with the mission of Sport Central, providing kids access to sports equipment,” said Sport Central’s executive director Janna Tominuk. “Basketball is a growing sport, and the Fresh Kicks program allows Sport Central to get more kids on the courts shooting hoops!
