Stingers named host for 2020 Championship Weekend, as 2020 CEBL schedule released

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Stingers have been named the host for the Canadian Elite Basketball League’s 2020 Championship Weekend, Aug.14-16, 2020 at the Edmonton Expo Centre.

The CEBL announced Tuesday in Toronto as part of an announced three-year partnership between the CEBL and CBC to be the league’s premier media partner.

All 20 regular season Stingers games will be streamed live on CBC Gem, CEBL.tv and the Island Sports Network.
CBC will broadcast seven regular season games and the Championship Final on its network station and The Stingers will begin their second season on Friday, May 8, 2020 when Edmonton hosts the visiting Hamilton Honey Badgers. Edmonton will also be part of the nationally televised broadcast as part of the CBC Game of the Week when the Stingers host the Fraser Valley Bandits on June 13.

- 10 games (home and away) versus Western opponents (Fraser Valley Bandits and Saskatchewan Rattlers).

- The expansion Ottawa Blackjacks make their first visit to Edmonton to face the Stingers on May 28. Edmonton plays Ottawa three times (two home, one away).

- Talk about building a rivalry! The Stingers face rival and reigning CEBL champion Saskatchewan Rattlers five times over an 11-game stretch from May 20 to July 20.

- Edmonton will play Guelph (three times), Hamilton (twice), Niagara (twice) and Ottawa (three times)

- The Stingers will be away from the Edmonton Expo Centre for three games from July 12-23 for their longest road trip of the season.

- The Stingers final home game is Aug.1 against the Guelph Nighthawks. The team wraps up their regular season on the road against the Niagara River Lions on Aug.6.

- The team with the best regular season record will join host Edmonton with automatic berths into the four-team Championship Weekend showcase. The next four teams in the standings will play quarterfinal games Aug. 9 to determine which two will advance to Edmonton.
