X Marks The Spot: Stingers re-sign CEBL MVP, Xavier Moon

Edmonton Stingers • Feb 01, 2020
EDMONTON - The Edmonton Stingers have re-signed point guard and reigning Canadian Elite Basketball League MVP, Xavier Moon to a one-year contract for the 2020 CEBL season.

Moon joined the Stingers for the team and league’s inaugural season in 2019 and made an immediate impact on and off the floor. The Goodwater, Al product instantly became a fan-favourite and despite missing six games due to injury finished the season tied for the league lead in points per game (19.3) and second in assists (5.7). He also led the league in steals with 2.2 and finished third in three-point shooting percentage (43.5%) in 13 games.

“I’m really excited to have Xavier back, especially as our first signing. His commitment to the city of Edmonton, the community and the Stingers is unparalleled,” said Stingers GM and head coach Jermaine Small.
“I look forward to continuing to help his growth as I know he wants to bring a championship to the city of Edmonton.”

Moon was one of six players from the 2019 roster to sign a player-option letter. The option allowed the Stingers a protected window to sign these players from the end of the current CEBL season until midnight on March, 1, 2020, without any other CEBL club interference.

After Moon’s spectacular CEBL season, the 24-year-old was invited to the Raptors 905 training camp in the NBA G-League. He’s currently playing for the London Lightning of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). Moon will join the Stingers at the conclusion of his NBL season in May.

The Edmonton Stingers will start their 2020 season on May 8 at the Expo Centre. Season tickets are now available via thestingers.ca/tickets. Flex packs and group tickets will be available later in February with single game tickets going on sale in March.
