Kamba coming back to The Hive: Stingers re-sign two-way shooting guard

Edmonton Stingers • Feb 04, 2020
EDMONTON - The Edmonton Stingers have re-signed shooting guard, Mathieu Kamba to a one-year contract for the 2020 CEBL season.

Kamba, 24 joined the Stingers for their inaugural season in 2019 and provided the team with scoring punch and shutdown perimeter defense.

The Calgary, Alta. product played 17 games (11 starts) for the Stingers and recorded 7.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

Prior to joining the Stingers, Kamba played his four years for Central Arkansas before playing one year of professional basketball in Spain for Saenz Horeca Araberri.

“He was probably our most improved player. As he improved, we improved,” said Stingers GM and head coach Jermaine Small.

“The sky is the limit for him, and I want to help him grow on and off the court.”

Kamba was one of six players from the 2019 roster to sign a player-option letter. The option allowed the Stingers a protected window to sign these players from the end of the current CEBL season until midnight on March, 1, 2020, without any other CEBL club interference.

After the Stingers season was finished, Kamba went back for his second pro season in Spain. He’s currently playing for Leyma Basquet Coruna. In 20 games (15 starts), Kamba is averaging 10.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

The Edmonton Stingers will start their 2020 season on May 8 at the Expo Centre. Season tickets are now available via thestingers.ca/tickets. Flex packs and group tickets will be available later in February with single game tickets going on sale in March.
