Former South Carolina Gamecock Adds Depth To Frontcourt

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday the signing of 6'8” Lithuanian forward Mindaugas “Minda” Kacinas to their 2024 roster. The former South Carolina Gamecock has played internationally for seven seasons, and will join the team ahead of their season opener Tuesday May 21st


“I’m excitedfor this opportunity to play for the Stingers this summer,“ said Kacinas. “I have heard many great things about this organization and am looking forward to being a part of the CEBL.”


This past season, Kacinas suited up for CB Ourense alongside Stingers guard Adika Peter-McNeilly. Across 34 games in the Spanish LEB Gold (the domestic second tier division) he averaged 10.6 points. It was his fifth season in the Spanish circuit, including a 2020-2021 season with Rio Breogan where he was named LEB Gold MVP after leading his team to a first place finish.


Prior to his career in Spain, Kacinas played two seasons in his native country’s top division, the LKL, for Neptunas. Overall, Kacinas has racked up 257 professional games across seven seasons.


Prior to his professional career, Kacinas played four seasons with the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. As a senior in 2015-16, the forward started all 34 games scoring 9.9 points per game with 5.1 rebounds. He set his NCAA career high with 23 points in a win over DePaul on November 20th, 2015. 


Kacinas will join the team for the season opener against Calgary Tuesday May 21st.


Kacinas and the Stingers will return to the Edmonton EXPO Centre on June 2nd to host the Saskatchewan Rattlers in their home opener.
