EDMONTON - The Edmonton Stingers have signed guard Mambi Diawara to a one-year contract for the 2020 CEBL season.

Diawara, 25, joins the Stingers having played professionally this past season in Argentina and Romania.

The Montreal, Que. product played six games with Hispano Americano De Rio Gallegos (Argentina), recording 4.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per game before transferring to BC PH Miercurea Ciuc (Romania). In eight games (six starts), Diawara recorded 24.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.9 steals per game.

Prior to turning pro, Diawara spent two years with the University of Calgary Dinos, where he won a U Sports national championship in 2018, in a game that saw Diawara hit the game-winning shot with two seconds remaining.

Later that summer, Diawara represented Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

“He’s hungry! I really like that about him,” said Stingers head coach and GM Jermaine Small.

“The fact he won a U Sports championship and represented our country in the Commonwealth Games says a lot about what he’s accomplished. His versatility on both sides of the ball fits perfectly with our group and style of play.”

The Edmonton Stingers will start their 2020 season on May 8 at the Expo Centre. Season tickets, flex packs and group tickets are now available via thestingers.ca/tickets.
